March 26

Trans Canada Hwy: At 10:30pm Salmon Arm RCMP observed an older red Jeep Cherokee speeding as it approached 30th St NE. A traffic stop was conducted and empty containers of Hey Y’all’s were observed in the rear seat. The driver had slurred speech and stated his last alcoholic beverage was one hour prior. A breath demand was conducted, where the driver blew a fail. The driver declined his right to a second test. The vehicle was impounded for a mandatory minimum of 30 days, and the driver was prohibited from driving for 90 days. The matter was referred to RoadSafetyBC.

Eagle Bay Rd: A 20 year old man reported his mother attacked him and broke his stuff. Salmon Arm RCMP spoke with the young man who explained he had stomped his foot at his mother’s dog, which led to his mother pushing him, and moving his clothes and action figures onto the floor next to a garbage bag. Police spoke with the mother who explained her son refused to get a job, refused to go to school, and refused to do any chores in the house and was just freeloading off her. The mom added that her dog had got out and her son tried to kick the dog, leading to her telling him it was time to move out. Police attended the residence, the son packed his belongings and was picked up by his father to go to Kamloops.

April 2

Hwy 97B: At 4pm a man reported he witnessed a two-vehicle collision on Hwy 97B. The complainant stated he saw a brown 2008 GMC Sierra pickup driving erratically then rear ended a white 2024 GMC Sierra that was driving ahead of it. The brown GMC struck the white GMC twice from behind, causing the white GMC to spin 180 degrees across the highway into oncoming traffic and into the ditch. Both vehicles sustained significant damage, but thankfully there were no injuries. Police attended and the brown GMC driver passed all sobriety testing. Cause of the collision was suspected to be medical and/or distracted driving. The driver of the brown GMC was issued a violation ticket for driving without consideration. The matter was further referred to RoadSafetyBC.

April 3

10th Ave SW: At 5:45pm an employee reported staff were holding an uncooperative shoplifter at the store. Police attended took custody of a 27-year-old man, later learning the man was from Vernon and had multiple active warrants for his arrest. Staff advised police the man attempted to steal over $2000 in products. The man was arrested for theft, and subsequently held in custody for a bail hearing to appear before a judge to speak to the warrants. The theft file remains under investigation with charges expected to be recommended to BC Prosecution.

April 5

30th St NE: At 10:30am a complainant reported teens having a car wash fundraiser at a local church, and was concerned about the safety of the teens standing with signs near the roadway. Two uniformed police officers were already at the car wash, in line to have their police cars washed and donate to the cause. There were no safety concerns, and the youth sign holders were observed doing so safely off the road.

April 10

Auto Rd SE: At 10:20pm Salmon Arm RCMP were making pro-active patrols and observed a blue 1993 GMC 3500 that appeared to be actively trying to evade police. A traffic stop was conducted, and a mandatory breath demand was conducted with the 35-year-old driver. The driver blew a warn, resulting in a 3-day driving prohibition.

April 14

Trans Canada Hwy: At 4pm a man reported he was involved in a road rage incident with a beige Cadillac Escalade SUV. The man reporting after a verbal exchange on the highway near Walmart, the incident appeared to be over. Several kilometers later, the Cadillac pulled to the side of the highway near Pierre’s Point Rd. The complainant reported that the front passenger in the Cadillac pointed a gun at the complainant and his vehicle as it drove past the Cadillac. Salmon Arm RCMP notified Chase RCMP that the Cadillac was likely heading their direction. Chase RCMP located the Cadillac travelling westbound on the Trans Canada Hwy, and conducted a traffic stop. The 32-year-old female driver, and 44-year-old male passenger were both arrested without incident. One firearm was located in the passenger side of the Cadillac by police. The couple was released without process while more evidence is collected. Salmon Arm RCMP has taken conduct of the investigation, with several charges expected to be recommended to BC Prosecution.

April 15

Golf Course Dr: A man reported his white 2020 Jeep Grand Cherokee was stolen from their driveway. The man stated he left on April 11 and returned on April 15 to find his Jeep was gone. The Jeep was bearing BC license plate KP735K when it was stolen.  The key was accounted for, and the vehicle had about 1/4 tank of gas.
